Our Moral Compass: You Must Be Present To Win

“There is a sign outside a casino in Las Vegas that says, “You must be present to win.” The same is true in meditation. If we want to see the nature of our lives, we must actually be present, aware, awake.”

-Jack Kornfield

Author, Buddhist practitioner, Spirit Rock Meditation Center founding teacher Jack Kornfield is a world renowned meditator. His quote for today serves as a great reminder that as all things that have happened and will happen to us in our lives we must be present to win. Mindfulness is one of those entities that being present is a non-negotiable. It is only then that we are focused on our inner self and can find true peace, true stillness. Author Jack Canfield provides us with 6 tips to stay in the present moment which will I think help in the area of meditation too:

1. Make A Commitment to Remain Present

2. Develop A System

3. Become Aware of Your Body

4. Remain Conscious of Your Thoughts

5. Be Aware of Your Surroundings

6. Enjoy Being Where You Are

I think when we apply these six tips we can become fully present with ourselves and the moment we are in. And in doing so we all win.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards improving your self awareness and self management skills?
