“Little by little, one travels far.”
Keep on swimming. This is what the fish Dory in the movie Finding Nemo says throughout and reminds us that no matter what life may throw our way, we have to pus through and keep moving forward. This essentially is what the Spanish saying says in stating that little by little, one travels far. Whichever saying you prefer it all comes down to a choice on our part in deciding that we want to move forward, that we want to travel far.
Every journey begins with a single step. It is our self management skills that leads us towards making the decision to take that step. Life is a marathon, not a 40 yard dash. There are times that we will be challenged to overcome something several times in the journey of life. It will also seem from time to time like we will never reach our destination. But rest assured we will. We need to remember that every step, no matter how small, helps lead us toward our destination, our true purpose. We have the innate ability to make constructive choices about our own personal behavior and how to conduct our social interactions with others based on the ethical standards, safety concerns, and social norms we decide upon. This encompasses a realistic evaluation of the consequences of our various actions, and a consideration of the well-being of oneself and others. It is through each experience and is our ethical responsibility for that matter to identify problems that come before us, analyze each situation and solve problems through evaluating and reflecting on them.
Little by little, bit by bit, we are getting better everyday and as long as we continue to make responsible decisions, we will reach our destination in living a just and fruitful life.
