The Price We Pay For Trying To Please Everyone
“Please all, and you will please none.”
-Aesop
Are you the type of person who when faced with important decision worry about trying to please everyone? If you are welcome to the club! I am in this same boat with you. Or at least I used to be. Today’s quote by Greek storyteller Aesop reminds us that no matter how hard we may try that if we try to please everyone we will more than likely please nobody. I remember this used to stress me out as I never wanted anyone to be upset with me. However I learned a long time ago that no matter what not everyone is ever going to be happy with the decisions we make. And you know what? That is ok. Once you realize this you will be better for it. Trust me. By no means is it easy if you being a people pleaser is engrained in you like it is in me. It takes a lot of hard work and effort but I have found over time that if you have your why established as to why you came to the decision you made, then no matter what you have your justification in your corner.
The bottom line is this: you will never please anyone if you try to please everyone. It is an impossible feat to accomplish whether it is dealing with family, friends or the daily happenings at work. I believe if we are true to ourselves and stick to our values and what we believe in, we will make the best decision for everyone and anyone involved. And if someone is disappointed in our decision then this is something they will have to get over as we do not control their responses, only how we respond and act.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your responsible decision making skills?
