Our Moral Compass: The Interior Design Of Your Mind

“Interior design is not just for the home, it’s also for the mind. Be intentional with what makes up your mental space.”

-Lauren Johnson

When you think of the term interior design what may come to mind are HGTV shows like Flip or Flop or Love it Or List It. But for today’s quote the interior design being referenced is that of our mind. Mental performance coach and speaker Lauren Johnson reminds us that just like we are intentional with how we design our home we must be intentional with what makes up our mental space. Like our own home, our minds can only hold so much before it becomes cluttered and ultimately fails as to function the way it should as a result of it. The challenge is how to declutter our mind to free up that mental space.

On daringtolivefully.com they recommend 10 ways in which we can declutter our mind in order to free up that mental space that we so desperately need:

1. Declutter Your Physical Environment.

2. Write It Down.

3. Keep a Journal.

4.  Let Go of the Past.

5. Stop Multi-Tasking.

6. Limit the Amount of Information Coming In.

7. Be Decisive.

8. Put Routine Decisions on Auto-Pilot.

9. Prioritize.

10. Learn to Meditate.

When we have mental clutter it prevents us from reaching our full potential. We must utilize the ways above to remove unnecessary strife in order to have things that are worthwhile having within our own mental space.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards defining/refining your own moral compass?
