Everything Is Connected
“The stars are like letters which inscribe themselves as every moment…Everything in the world is full of signs…All events are coordinated…All things depend on each other; as has been said, “Everything breathes together.”
-Plotinus
Do you ever take time to notice that there are signs all around us? There are messages that, if we take the time long enough to pay attention speak to us in saying that everything we encounter is connected to one another and is never truly done or seen in isolation. This is what the philosopher Plotinus meant in today’s quote. Although he did not specifically mention anything about our relationships with others I believe that this can easily coincide with his line of thinking.
We depend on one another whether or not we like to admit. They balance us. Actually they complete us. This is all in spite of some of us thinking that the only people we need to rely on is ourselves. It’s important to understand that there are many benefits to depending on others. It affords us the ability to see other people’s point of view so we do not become so rigid in our way of thinking. We are able to see who has strength in certain skillsets that we may lack in and by relying on them it helps to balance us out more in the process. When we have have meaningful collaboration with others that it also intentional, it fosters and strengthens the bond of trust which is something that is very hard to come by nowadays. The connection between two people helps to create better outcomes in the grand scheme of things and it is like what the acronym T.E.A.M. means: Together Everyone Achieves More.
Every facet of life is connected to one another. Just like plants need the nutrients, sun and rain to grow we need to connect with and depend on others for us to grow as individuals too. When we stop to realize this and make the necessary efforts to foster the relationships around us, our lives will be that much better for it.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your relationship skills?
