“I not only have the right to stand up for myself, but I have the responsibility. I can’t ask somebody else to stand up for me if I won’t stand up for myself. And once you stand up for yourself. You’d be surprised that people say, “Can’t I be of help?”
-Maya Angelou
In order for others to become more socially aware they must be able to recognize when you, yourself is in need of their help. As Maya Angelou mentions in today’s quote, until we learn to stand up for ourselves and what we believe in, we will never acknowledge the social awareness of others.
When we do learn to stand for what we believe in those around us are more likely to help us. Why? Because they recognize we are in need of their assistance. When others sense or see this they know that if they were in your same situation they’d want help too from someone else. We need to remember to be vulnerable. We are human. We all fall. However….we also rise. We rise with the help of others. Be open to receiving that help. It is a decision you will never regret.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards becoming more socially aware?
