“It seems to me so silly in life not to pursue the highest possible thing you can imagine, the biggest possible things you can imagine, the best possible thing you can imagine, even if you run the risk of losing it.”
-Francis Ford Coppola
There are often times in our life where we doubt ourselves and our abilities. In doing so we don’t pursue our hopes and dreams. We sell ourselves short and instead of reaching for the stars we decide to just settle. Settle for things that don’t require much risk. Settle for things that are safe, less vulnerable. Why is that? Is it because of fear or lack of self confidence? Whatever it is the purpose of today’s message is to put a stop to this negative self talk and thinking less of ourselves. We are so much more than we give ourselves credit for. And despite what we may have experienced or are currently experiencing we deserve nothing but the best.
Film director Francis Ford Coppola reminds us that no matter the risk, even if we lose it all, we need to pursue the highest, biggest and best things in life possible we can possibly imagine and just go for it. We can no longer allow ourselves or others to stop us from achieving greatness and from reaching our full potential. We all have the necessary skillsets to get out of life what we want. These skillsets coincide with our moral compass and the 5 areas of Social Emotional Learning. The experiences we encounter on a daily basis tests each of those five areas without us even realizing it. Those possibilities that Francis Ford Coppola mentions are ones where we are self aware of. We manage ourselves accordingly and engage in things that will help turn those possibilities into real achievable goals. Through this process we become more socially aware of other people and their thoughts and feelings and learn to empathize with them. We strengthen the relationships with others as well as with ourselves through this process and each decision we make helps us to get closer towards making our dreams become a reality. The bottom line of this: don’t ever sell yourself short as its up to us to turn every possibility into something wonderful.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards defining/refining your own moral compass?
