“True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future.”
-Seneca
How often do you find yourself driving somewhere and when you arrive to your destination really don’t recall how in fact you got there? It is often something that happens far too often. We fail to live in the present as we focus on the pending future or something that may have occurred in the past.
As Roman philosopher Seneca says in today’s quote if we enjoy the present we are more than likely able to experience true happiness. The fear of the unknown, our future, leads us to unnecessary anxiousness. We need to remember we have no control over the future so why stress about it? It doesn’t do any good to do so.
Being in the here and now allows us to be truly self aware of our circumstances as the current things we experience unfold. That happiness can be those times with your loved ones and the special moments that make it special. You don’t want to miss the good in this world focusing on the future, let alone the past. Life is too precious to ignore the moments happening now. Be present because you don’t want to miss a thing.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards improving your self awareness?
